Quebec’s police watchdog has submitted its report on an incident in Inukjuak that left a six-year-old girl dead and her father injured last December.

The Bureau des enquêtes indépendantes said in a news release Monday that, on April 28, it sent its report to the Director of Criminal and Penal Prosecutions, which will decide whether officers involved should face charges.

On Dec. 20, 2025, the Nunavik Police Service responded to a call at 3:30 a.m. about a person at a home who posed a danger to others, the bureau said in a news release.

When police arrived, a man with a rifle confronted them, and gunfire was exchanged, the release said.

The man and a child were injured.

Ten days later, the bureau announced the child, identified by a family member as six-year-old Alacie Iqaluk, died.

Andrew Naluktuk, the girl’s father, is facing multiple charges, including two counts of possession of a firearm while prohibited and assault on peace officers with a weapon.

He’s also facing a charge of unlawfully causing bodily harm to a child.

Four people, including Iqaluk, have died in Nunavik in interactions with police in the past year and a half.

Joshua Papigatuk died in November 2024 and his twin brother Garnet was badly injured after they were shot by police.

In May 2025, Mark R. Annanack died in Kangiqsualujjuaq after a confrontation with police.

And in July 2025, James Kavik in Inukjuak died after a run in with police.

The bureau has submitted its reports into all four cases. Prosecutors have yet to announce whether charges will be laid.
