Several offices are closed in Kuujjuaq on Tuesday due to severe blizzard conditions.
Environment Canada issued a warning that travel and outdoor activities will be dangerous due to near-zero visibility and blowing snow.
Kativik Regional Government, CIBC, the Kuujjuaq Forum and Nunavik Housing Bureau announced on Facebook that their doors are closed Tuesday.
Updates are expected by the end of the day on what to expect for Wednesday.
Pitakallak Elementary School and Jaanimarik Secondary School are also closed for the day.
A wind warning is in place, with gusts up to 90 km/h expected Tuesday evening. The winds will calm down early Wednesday morning, the forecast said.
Tasiujaq, a community of about 420 people located about 25 minutes from Kuujjuaq by plane, is also experiencing severe weather conditions.
Strong winds combined with falling snow are creating near-zero visibility. Travel is dangerous and likely impossible as roads may quickly become unsafe, the forecast warns.
Ajagutak, the community’s school, is also closed. Nunavik Housing Bureau also closed its office in Tasiujaq until conditions improve.
And in Kangirsuk, bad weather forced the closure Tuesday of the Nunavik Housing Bureau office.
