RCMP arrested three men and seized cash, cocaine, drug paraphernalia and a firearm while carrying out a search warrant at a home in the 300 block in Lower Iqaluit on March 31.
Local officers were assisted by Iqaluit RCMP’s general investigative section and Nunavut RCMP’s federal Arctic unit, an RCMP news release said Wednesday.
Joavie Nookiguak, 66, and Joanasie Kilabuk, 44, were each charged with trafficking a controlled substance and possession of property obtained by crime.
Both were released from custody. Their next court appearance is scheduled for May 7 in Iqaluit.
Roger Kilabuk, 35, was also arrested during the search. He was charged with obstruction and failing to comply with a release order. Roger Kilabuk was held in custody, with a court appearance in Iqaluit scheduled for April 21.
The search and arrests are not related to a homicide early Friday also in the 300 block in Iqaluit, RCMP spokesperson Sgt. George Henrie said in an email Wednesday.
In that incident, officers responding to a report of a disturbance at a residence found a male who was seriously injured and who later died in hospital.
Kendra Amaaq, 24, and Owen Amaaq, 19, both of Iqaluit, were each charged with first-degree murder and wearing a disguise with intent to commit an indictable offence.

The locals are used to sell these for someone from the south who provides them. It’s always been this way and it will always be this way.
