Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. and the territory’s three regional Inuit associations are holding elections to fill a variety of leadership positions.

The nomination period for those hoping to fill two vice-presidential roles up for grabs at NTI opened Monday and will close on Friday.

The two vice-president positions appears to be a change from the organization’s current structure.

Paul Irngaut is currently the NTI vice-president but going back to 2010, NTI held elections for two vice-president positions, with one winner becoming chair of social development and the other chair of the organization’s wildlife advisory council.

Nunatsiaq News has reached out to NTI to ask whether there are any differences between the two vice-presidential roles up for grabs in this year’s election.

Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. is the organization responsible for making sure the promises in the Nunavut Agreement are met.

Nunavut’s three regional organizations are also holding elections Dec. 14.

The Kitikmeot Inuit Association is seeking a new president. The nomination period opened Oct. 23 and closes Friday.

The Qikiqtani Inuit Association is holding an election for president as well, and community directors for Iqaluit, Igloolik, Kimmirut, Sanirajak, Clyde River, Pond Inlet and Sanikiluaq. The nomination period opens Nov. 9 and runs until Nov. 13.

And the Kivalliq Inuit Association is searching for people to fill five seats on its board of directors. They include a vice-president, secretary/treasurer, and community director positions in Naujaat, Whale Cove and Rankin Inlet.

The nomination period opened for that election on Oct. 26 and closes Nov. 9.
