MLA says people are concerned about intimidation, thefts and assaults in the area
A security guard posted at Iqaluit’s beer and wine store seems to be deterring criminals. The Finance Department stationed the guard in the parking lot of the store, which is operated by Nunavut’s liquor and cannabis commission, on Aug.

After a days-long elimination draw, the City of Iqaluit declared Willa the dog as the Best Pet of 2023. Willa, who lives in Apex, enjoys playing with local children. “If a child throws a ball, Willa brings it back,” stated city spokesperson Kent Driscoll in a city news release announcing the winner. To enter the contest, community members were asked to send in a photo of their pet wearing their City of Iqaluit domestic animal licence. Anglers in Iqaluit cast their fishing lines from the rocky shoreline of Sylvia Grinnell River on Sunday evening. After a week of clouds and rain, residents of the Nunavut capital were blessed with sunny weather over the weekend. The beautiful weather is set to stick around for most of the coming week, according to an Environment and Climate Change Canada forecast, with the exception of Tuesday which is calling for a 60 per cent chance of rain.
