Iqaluit skater spreads cheer with gift bags for elders

Eight-year-old Béatrice Allerton of Iqaluit delivers a gift bag of cookies and tea to Natsiq Kango, an elder originally from Arctic Bay. Allerton delivered more than 60 gift bags to Iqaluit elders on March 28 and 29 for a community service project that’s part of the Iqaluit Skating Club’s off-ice training, funded by Sport Nunavut. Twelve skaters and some of the club’s board members prepared the gift bags with the help of baker Craig Borden. Allerton received a $500 micro-grant from Northern Youth Abroad for the project.
